Course Overview

Accounting and Finance for Decision Makers is designed for beginners with limited background in accounting and finance. The modules include practical exercises, interactive discussions, and opportunities for participants to engage with the concepts and content in a structured approach.

The course will equip participants to support decision-making with informed financial analysis and to assess the impact of decisions on the financial health and performance of a business. By the end of the course, participants will have gained a strong understanding of accounting and finance fundamentals and will be able to assess the impact of financial decision-making on various stakeholders.

  • Fundamentals of accounting principles that form the foundation of financial reporting.
  • Components and elements of the financial statements, and the purpose of the different financial statements.
  • Accounting Cycle and the effect of accounting transactions on financial statements and the financial performance and financial health of the business.
  • Time Value of Money, Budgeting, Forecasting and Capital Budgeting.
  • Financial Analysis using Ratios to evaluate liquidity, profitability, solvency, and activity of a business. This also includes the effects of accounting transactions on these measures.
  • Ethical considerations in Finance and Accounting.
  • Relevant costing in decision-making. Explain concepts such as sunk costs, committed costs, avoidable costs, opportunity costs, and capacity costs.
  • Evaluating capital budget projects by using measures such as Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Residual Income, Economic Value Added, Payback, and Profitability Index.
